Today we celebrate the feast of Archangel Michael. The meaning of the name ‘Michael’ in Hebrew is ‘who is like God’. From the biblical stories about Archangel Michael, we can easily find how he literally declares the meaning of his name towards God.
For instance, Revelation 12:7-9 shows us that the angel fights against the devil for us.
“And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.”
In Daniel 10: 13-15 we see that the angel comes to help us when we are in trouble.
But the prince of the Persian kingdom resisted me twenty-one days. Then Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, because I was detained there with the king of Persia. Now I have come to explain to you what will happen to your people in the future, for the vision concerns a time yet to come.” While he was saying this to me, I bowed with my face toward the ground and was speechless.
Always remember, as the Psalmist David wrote in Psalm 34:7
The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear Him, And rescues them.
And may the glory be to God
